The Canadian Immigration law put family’s reunification as the main milestone in the Canadian immigration system.

Please note that when you are sponsoring a family member, whether it is your dependent child or spouse/common-law partner, you should support them financially once they became residents permenants of Canada until the sponsorship duration comes to an end. Therefore, you must work in Canada and meet certain income requirements. Sponsoring a family member to Canada is a big commitment, as you must sign an undertaking agreement.

Please note that Only under a very specific circumstances you will be allowed to sponser your spouse/ common law partner, or dependant child if you are receiving social assistance from the Canadian government.

Spousal sponsorship application processing is given the highest priority at Canadian Visa Offices for both in Canada and outside of Canada cases.
If you applied to sponsor your spouse outside Canada, once a decision is made and the sponsorship application is approved, Canadian immigration authorities will issue the applicant Canada Spouse Visa (a confirmation of permanent residence).

If you applied to sponser a spouse from inside Canada, your spouse will be eligible to for open work permit once the sponsorship application is approved in principal.
